The Students' Association of Graduates in English (SAGE)

is pleased to present a

Writing and Poetics Reading Group

First meeting: Fri, March 2 at 1:00, (location TBA).

A note from Jill Darling, the group organizer:

I have received a number of responses from folk interested in meeting to "do" writing and poetics types of reading, and potentially, activities. After getting some general feedback, I am thinking of a type of structure that would involve meeting once a month, or some such thing, to discuss an agreed-upon text (or texts) that is either critical ( e.g. poetic theory) or creative (e.g. book of poetry) in nature. To begin, I thought it might be appropriate to read work from the poet and critic, Rachel Blau DuPlessis, who is scheduled to visit in April. Later book selections, I imagine, can be chosen either by the group as a whole, or individuals alternating turns to choose texts. Planning future readings and activities also is something we can talk about further, in person.

Ok, so the details:

Read a selection from DuPlessis' Blue Studios (I can make a selection available for copying-the book itself is pricey)
Read from Drafts 1-38, Toll (Paperback, 2001, Poetry) which is available used, and cheaper than her more recent book of poems
Meet on Fri, March 2 at 1:00, (location TBA) to discuss

Please respond to me personally if you would like to be added to the Writing and Poetics listserve; further discussion will take place there.
